LONG AN – The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Long An has been very successful in building national new-style rural areas, improving people’s incomes in the countryside and the beautiful look of rural areas.

Vietsovpetro welcomes first oil flow from BK-18A and BK-19 oil rigs

NDO/VNA – Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro on November 24 held an online ceremony to welcome the first flow of oil extracted from BK-18A and BK-19 oil rigs.

The event marked the 40th founding anniversary of Vietsovpetro and the 60th anniversary of the traditional day of the Vietnam oil and gas industry (November 27, 1961 - November 27, 2021).

The complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused difficulties for the construction of the BK-18A and BK-19 oil rigs. However, Vietsovpetro has carried out a series of solutions, including reviewing the overall construction stages for the whole project and adopting three-on-site model. Thus, the projects have met the desired quality and were completed 48 days ahead of schedule.

Singapore, Malaysia to open land borders for vaccinated travellers

Singapore and Malaysia will launch a quarantine-free travel lane at their land border crossing, one of the world's busiest, for people vaccinated against COVID-19.

The land travel lane in the first phase will apply to citizens, permanent residents or long-term pass holders of the country they are entering, to allow people to visit families on the other side of the border, the office of Singapore's prime minister said in a statement.

If an individual is found positive, the patient may be referred for treatment or referred to an authorised clinic by the Ministry of Health. Passengers are required to have a hotel reservation document for the quarantine. In case of no hotel booking, they must prepare 2,000 USD in cash (for foreign travellers) to deposit at the entrance of Cambodia to guarantee the cost during the quarantine upon the arrival in Cambodia./.

VN-Index surpasses historic 1,500-point milestone

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rose 0.8 percent to surpass the historic 1,500-point mark for the first time, continuing its rising trend from earlier this year. -

The index stayed in the green throughout the day and closed nearly 12 points higher in its third session in the green. It has gained nearly 36 percent this year.

Eleven blue chip tickers fell, with HDB of HDBank losing 3 percent, and SAB of brewer Sabeco falling 1.8 percent.

Covid-19 vaccination rate sluggish as provinces await supplies

Vietnam's target of vaccinating all adults in 2021 looks difficult now with many provinces unlikely to achieve the target because they lack vaccine doses. -

Until now, there are just 23 of Vietnam's 63 cities and provinces that have finished inoculating all people over 18 with the first shot.

Vietnam has given 67.8 million at least one vaccine shot and 45.1 million people have received two shots.

Vietnam records 12,429 new local Covid cases

Vietnam on Thursday recorded 12,429 more local Covid-19 cases, bringing the national infection tally in the fourth wave to 1,162,141. -

The three localities with the highest numbers of new cases were Ho Chi Minh City with 1,582 cases, Can Tho with 741 cases and Tay Ninh with 683 cases.

Vietnam has vaccinated 68.4 million people with at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot, and 46.1 million have received two shots.

Vietnam confirms 12,450 COVID-19 cases on November 25

NDO/VNA - Vietnam recorded 12,450 cases of COVID-19, including 21 imported cases, in 59 localities during 24 hours from 4pm November 24 to 4pm November 25, according to the Ministry of Health.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to record the highest number of infections with 1,582, followed by Can Tho city with 741 and Tay Ninh with 683.

By November 24, the country had injected over114.59 million doses of vaccines, with more than 46.1 million people fully vaccinated.

Việt Nam to administer third dose of COVID-19 vaccine

HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Wednesday has instructed localities to develop a plan for administering the third dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

The Health Ministry also asked localities to accelerate the current vaccination programme and review the list of people who received two doses of vaccine, in preparation for the third.

HCM City has also proposed six major strategies to safely and flexibly adapt to and effectively control the COVID-19 pandemic, which are: increasing vaccination rate; enhancing capacity in monitoring, forecasting and handling outbreaks; at-home treatment for COVID-19 patients; promoting 5K measures; and strengthening and improving the capacity of the healthcare system. — VNS

Multi-billion dollar deals signed between Japan and Việt Nam at business conference

Japan, UK oppose unilateral attempts to change status quo in seas

Japan and the UK have agreed to step up security cooperation in order to realise a "free and open Indo-Pacific" region.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that in their phone talks on November 24, Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and his British counterpart Liz Truss affirmed their strong opposition to unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force in the East China Sea and South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam).

Two die after Covid vaccination in central Vietnam

Two workers in the north central province of Thanh Hoa died after getting vaccinated against Covid-19, the province's Health Department announced Wednesday. -

The Nong Cong District medical center on Tuesday vaccinated workers of the Kim Viet shoe factory with the second shot of the Vero Cell Covid-19 vaccine by Sinopharm, according to the health department. All people vaccinated have had their health screened and be advised about the side effects they may have.

Around 2.2 million Covid-19 vaccine shots have been given in the province.

IUU fishing fight regulations popularised among fishermen in Bach Long Vi island

US sends Vietnam 4.1 million Covid vaccine doses

The United States is shipping another four million Covid-19 vaccine doses to Vietnam, the White House said Tuesday, bringing the total of U.S. doses donated globally to nearly 270 million. -

A senior administration official told AFP that 4,149,990 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are being sent, bringing the total delivered to Vietnam by the United States to 17,589,110 doses. Shipments began Tuesday.

Vietnam, which has a population of about 96 million, has recorded more than 1.14 million infections and more than 24,000 deaths.

Increase domestic flights in major cities, Vietnam aviation authority proposes

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has proposed increasing flight frequency between Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang from next month, before pre-pandemic levels are resumed early next year. -

In a proposal sent Thursday to the Ministry of Transport, the CAAV said the increase would meet higher travel demand during the year-end peak season.

But those high-risk or locked-down areas and HCMC and Can Tho need to furnish a negative coronavirus test before boarding, even if they have been fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19.

Petrol prices drop in latest review

NDO/VNA – The retail prices of oil and petrol were adjusted down starting from 3 pm on November 25 following the latest adjustment by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance.

Accordingly, the retail price of E5RON92 bio-fuel decreased 752 VND to a maximum of 22,917 VND per litre (around 1 USD) while that of RON95-III was also down 1,094 VND to 23,902 VND per litre.

The two ministries review fuel prices every 15 days to adjust the prices in accordance with fluctuations on the world market.

Vietnam’s Covid-19 infections hit two-month high

Despite rising infections, the number of critical cases and deaths dropped after nearly two months of reopening the economy.

Vietnam saw 12,450 coronavirus cases on November 25, the highest single day figure reported in two months and a half, as a result of the flexible adaptation approach since October 2021.

Speaking at a national meeting today [November 25], Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Truong Son said with the current pandemic situation, the criterion of evaluating 100,000 new Covid-19 cases a week is no longer important. The current method is to focus on assessing the rate of serious patients, hospitalization, death, and treatment capacity.

Cà Mau tightens regulations on use of geographical indication for black tiger shrimp

CÀ MAU – The southernmost province of Cà Mau has strengthened regulations on the use of Cà Mau geographical indication for its black tiger shrimp to protect the rights of shrimp breeders and consumers.

The province, the country’s largest shrimp producer, was granted the Cà Mau geographical indication for black tiger shrimp in September by the National Office of Intellectual Property.

The province exports about US$1 billion of shrimp a year, accounting for about 30 per cent of the country’s total shrimp export value. Its shrimp is exported to more than 90 countries and territories. – VNS

Remittance to Vietnam forecast to continue growing despite pandemic

NDO/VNA – The World Bank and the Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD) forecast that remittance to Vietnam is estimated at 18.1 billion USD in 2021.

As such, the country will be the eighth largest remittance recipient in the world and the third largest in the Asia-Pacific region this year.

According to estimates from the World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief released recently, remittances to low- and middle-income countries are projected to have grown a strong 7.3 percent to reach 589 billion USD in 2021. This return to growth is more robust than earlier estimates and follows the resilience of flows in 2020 when remittances declined by only 1.7 percent despite a severe global recession due to COVID-19.

NDO/VNA - Vietnam and Japan on November 24 issued a joint statement toward the opening of a new era in the bilateral extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia on the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Japan from November 22-25.

At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Kishida Fumio, H.E. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, made an official visit to Japan from the 22nd to the 25th of November 2021. Prime Minister Chinh was the first foreign leader to visit following the inauguration of Japan's new administration. The two sides consented to work closely together to develop their Extensive Strategic Partnership into an increasingly substantive and effective partnership in all areas and to elevate it to new heights. VNG annual online charity run for community raises $219,900

HCM CITY — Tech giant VNG’s annual online community charity run UpRace has raised more than VNĐ5 billion (US$219,900) for NGOs Newborns Vietnam, Operation Smile Vietnam, Green Viet, and Saigon Children’s Charity.

In UpRace, runners record the distance they run and the time they take on a mobile application on its website.

“With an expense of over VNĐ11 million per [person] under the ‘You are not alone’ (saigonchildren) project, the VNĐ1 billion from UpRace [will help] around 90 children impoverished/orphaned by COVID-19.” VNS

Indonesian minister calls for AI use to strengthen ASEAN cooperation

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia AirlanggaHartarto has emphasized the importance of cooperation in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to improve and strengthen ASEAN cooperation.

Addressing the virtual ASEAN Workshop on fourth industrial revolution in Jakarta on November 25, Hartarto said it is meant to not only manage the opportunities and challenges that come from AI, but also to further strengthen the stability and prosperity of the region by using a digital road-map in the coming years.

There are several recommendations to address these issues, including improving data access, increasing Government investment in AI, promoting AI workforce development, creating national advisory committees, and engaging national and local officials to ensure they enforce effective policies./.

Japanese giants pledge further support for Vietnam

Vietnam is expected to relaunch international flights in early December, including those to Japan.

Major Japanese business association and corporations have expressed their commitments to supporting Vietnam’s sustainable development and contributing to bilateral relations.

Global forum gathers over 170 young Vietnamese intellectuals

The fourth forum of young Vietnamese intellectuals across the globe opened on November 25, attracting the participation of 177 representatives from Vietnam and 16 countries and territories.

A network of young Vietnamese intellectuals with over 1,000 members has now been established. An Giang’s primary school children to have one-week break from online learning

AN GIANG — Authorities in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang have announced online classes for primary students will be halted for a week, from November 29 to December 5, 2021.

An official letter signed on November 23 by Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, Nguyễn Quốc Khánh, stated that online learning has been a good solution for students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stress caused by the pandemic was a problem raised by many education experts, requiring teachers with deep knowledge of psychology who will be able to provide counseling, especially homeroom teachers, and health staff involved in supporting students.
