Industrial production rises at fastest pace since late 2018

Total new orders increased for the eighth month running, and at the fastest pace in close to two-and-a-half years.

The Vietnam Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose for the third month running, posting 54.7 in April following a reading of 53.6 in March and was the strongest since November 2018, according to Nikkei and IHS Markit.

Expectations that the Covid-19 pandemic will remain under control leading to higher demand, and the introduction of new product lines, supported ongoing confidence among firms regarding the 12-month outlook for production.

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rose 0.23 percent to 1,242.20 points Tuesday, its fourth session in the green, with Techcombank and Vietinbank leading blue-chip gains. -

Turkey drops PCR test requirement for Vietnamese citizens

Newly established firms grow at fastest pace since 2017

HÀ NỘI — The number of new enterprises established in the first four months of 2021 rose 17.5 per cent from a year earlier, the fastest growth since 2017, and it increased in all economic sectors, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Between January and April, nearly 44,200 new firms were set up with VNĐ627.7 trillion (US$27.2 billion) worth of capital and 340,300 employees registered, up 17.5 per cent, 41 per cent, and 7.8 per cent, respectively, from the same period last year.

More than 100 people fined for not wearing face masks in city

Hanoi has to tighten the enforcement of quarantine procedure to prevent the spreading of novel coronavirus.

As many as 110 people, including foreigners, were fined VND300 million (US$13,800) for not wearing masks in Ha Noi’s Hoan Kiem district during the four-day holiday from April 29 to May 2, according to Bui Van Dang, deputy head of the district’s police department.

The Health Ministry has said individuals who have completed the mandated 14-day quarantine and tested negative twice after entering Vietnam will not be released immediately. -

This rule will apply starting Tuesday, the ministry said, but did not specify the duration of extension at centralized quarantine facilities.

Thailand’s border trade strongly surges in Q1

NDO – The Ministry of Health has issued an urgent message stating that people who have completed their 14-day quarantine period and tested negative for COVID-19 virus twice will not be allowed to leave the quarantine facilities due to several cases of COVID-19 infections after the 14-day quarantine period.

All people who have experienced 14-day quarantine and tested negative for COVID-19 virus twice, at both military concentrated quarantine and civilian quarantine facilities, must temporarily remain at the quarantine facilities until there is a new announcement from the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The Health Ministry also calls on people to refrain from going to public places and gatherings while following the 5K recommendations. People are suggested to call the hotline 19009095 for advice when needed.

NDO – A presentation ceremony was held at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Laos on the morning of May 4 to hand over US$500,000, medical supplies and equipment from Vietnam to Laos to help the country in itsfight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung expressed the sympathy of the Vietnamese leaders and people for the difficulties facing Laos, emphasising that Vietnam always stands side by side with Laos in its fight against the pandemic.

As scheduled, the group will send a further 800 MV20 ventilators to Cambodia to help it respond to the pandemic.

HÀ NỘI — Staff working at Sunny Club in the northern province of Vĩnh Phúc contracted the Indian variant of coronavirus, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology took samples of COVID-19 patients in Vĩnh Phúc, Hà Nam, Hưng Yên and Hà Tĩnh provinces to trace the origin of the virus.

Schools in Yên Bái City, Nghĩa Lộ Town, Văn Chấn and Trấn Yên districts of northern Yên Bái Province and Hà Nam Province will remain shut until May 9.

Hanoi man tests positive for coronavirus after flight with infected Chinese expert

A man in Hanoi has tested positive for the coronavirus Monday night after flying on the same flight with a Chinese expert who tested positive as well. -

The 26-year-old man in Bac Tu Liem District was on the VN160 flight by Vietnam Airlines from central Da Nang City to Hanoi on April 29, the municipal Department of Health announced. The man was determined to be in close contact with two Chinese experts who tested positive for the virus.

The total coronavirus tally is at 2,981, with 35 deaths.

Da Nang to suspend non-essential activities after Covid-19 surge

Da Nang would suspend gyms, festivals and sporting events starting Tuesday amid rising coronavirus concerns, the municipal People's Committee announced. -

Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) have signed Brazilian forward Felipe Martins for the third time in just one year. -

Martins first joined SLNA in the second leg of V. League 2020 on a short-term contract. He only scored two goals after seven games and his contract was not extended after the season ended. The second time was at the start of V. League 2021, when a foreign player at SLNA suffered sudden injury, causing the club to sign Martins again on a trial contract to fill the spot. He scored one goal in two games before being released by SLNA.

HÀ NỘI — Another community COVID-19 infection has been confirmed in Hà Nội by the Ministry of Health.

The patient is a 26-year-old man from Bắc Từ Liêm District. He was on the same flight, VN160, as two Chinese experts travelling from Đà Nẵng to Hà Nội in the morning of April 29.

Meanwhile the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday morning a review of quarantine measures. This came after some people who completed the 14-day period tested positive after leaving quarantine facilities. All quarantine centres have been told not to release people after 14 days and two negative tests. More information is expected on this issue. VNS

HCM City aims for ‘smart city’ status by 2025

HCM CITY — HCM City authorities will continue to resolve flooding and traffic congestion, build major transport works, and streamline administrative procedures to reach “smart city” status by 2030, a city official has said.

Speaking at a recent city People’s Council meeting, Nguyễn Thanh Phong, chairman of the city People’s Committee, said that two transport projects worth more than VNĐ12 trillion (US$521.8 million) have been approved.
